“YOUR HUSBAND IS DEAD! THIS HOUSE IS OURS NOW!” — shouted the in-laws… But the door suddenly opened and the husband walked in: “I was only gone for three years on a secret mission, and you’ve been abusing my wife?!”

“YOUR HUSBAND IS DEAD! THIS HOUSE IS OURS NOW!” — shouted the in-laws… But the door suddenly opened and the husband walked in: “I was only gone for three years on a secret mission, and you’ve been abusing my wife?!”

Maya had been grieving for three years. Her husband, Captain Leo, an elite military officer, had been declared Killed in Action (KIA) after his helicopter exploded during a mission in Mindanao. The only things left to Maya were their four-year-old son, Timmy, and the house Leo had built with his blood and sweat.

One morning, without warning, her mother-in-law, Doña Carmen, and her brother-in-law, Anton, barged in carrying suitcases and a fake land title.

“Start packing, Maya! And take that child with you!” Doña Carmen shouted. “This house belongs to us now!”

“Ma, what are you saying? This is Leo’s and my home. Timmy and I will stay here,” Maya cried, tightly hugging her terrified son.

“Your husband is dead!” Anton yelled as he shoved Maya. She fell to the floor. “You have no right here anymore! Leo used our family’s money to buy this place. So get out before I drag you out myself!”

Doña Carmen grabbed Leo’s framed photo from the table and hurled it to the floor. CRASH!

“You’re nothing but a burden to our family! Now that my son is gone, I’m taking back everything you enjoyed!” the greedy old woman screamed.
