Lucía clenched the sheets.
“And?”
“And he refused,” the doctor said bitterly. “Not because he didn’t care… but because he believed he didn’t deserve to stay.”
Lucía’s voice dropped to a whisper.
“That doesn’t make sense.”
The doctor looked at her, pain written across his face.
“Adrián isn’t the man you think he is.”

A tear slipped down his cheek.
“When you told him about the baby… it didn’t scare him because he didn’t want it.”
He paused.
“It scared him because he thought he would destroy you… the same way he believes he destroyed his mother.”
