Emma’s grip on Daniel loosened just slightly—but not enough to let him go.
“What did you do?” she asked, her voice barely audible.
Sarah covered her face with trembling hands. “We argued… she threatened to tell you everything… about the money… about Daniel…”
Emma’s heart skipped.
“About Daniel?” she repeated.
Daniel’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t interrupt.
“I pushed her,” Sarah continued, her voice breaking into sobs. “Just a little… I swear… but she hit the table… and then she wasn’t moving…”
Emma staggered back a step, her hand finally releasing Daniel’s shirt.
“No…” she whispered.

“I didn’t want you to lose everything!” he shouted back, emotion finally breaking through his calm exterior. “That money—it wasn’t just hers. It was tied to you, to your business, to everything you built!”
“I would rather lose everything than live a lie!” Emma snapped.
Another silence.
But this time… it was different.

Emma looked between them—two people she had trusted, two people who had just shattered her world in a matter of minutes.
“You don’t get to decide what I can handle,” she said quietly.
Then, without another word, she reached into her pocket.
And pulled out her phone.
Sarah’s eyes widened in terror. “Emma… what are you doing?”
Emma’s finger hovered over the screen.
Her heart pounded.
One call… and everything would end.
Or begin.
Daniel took a step forward. “Think carefully.”
Emma looked at him—really looked at him—for the first time since it all began.
“I am,” she said.
And then—
She pressed the button
